The desalination plant was a real surprise.  We drove up to a wonderfully landscaped garden with a low modern building which blended beautifully with its surroundings.  Whoever designed the environment has done an excellent job, and I'm sure it's an improvement on what was there before.  And who would ever know what lies beneath?  Huge pipes and workings, but there is nothing ugly on show here.  A few out building may give a clue but even these are neat and considering what this place does, reasonably unobtrusive.

Our guide was word perfect and explained the process in a way most of us could follow.  Needless to say, this was no volunteer, more like a very educated lady.  So far most of us were duly impressed.  Then we were told that the plant was not operational and won't be until a demand for water eventuates, which most of us interpreted as being the next drought, an expensive asset at about $19million, however, when we do encounter those conditions again, it comforting to know we have a solution.
Another fact most of us didn't know is that the water can be delivered to just about any water storage dam and has been built to be carbon neutral.
All in all, a very informative day that put a lot of myths and confusion as to its worth and usage to rest and finished off with a lovely luncheon in Wonthaggi...

You could never guess what's inside this building
